教育目標

This course has been designed specifically to provide a broad but relatively thorough picture of the academic departments at Tunghai University. There are two purposes for doing this. First, to help open your eyes to what a university offers academically. Regardless of what academic major you choose, you will probably never again in your life be in an environment so closely surrounded by so many educators who are experts in such diverse domains of human knowledge that you can interact with. So, the first purpose is to help you appreciate this rare environment that you will be part of in the coming years. The second purpose is to give you a taste of many of these academic fields to help you decide which might be a good fit for you. As a student in the IDP program, you are part of a rare group of people who can experience such a broad and thorough introduction to the academic fields and their resources available in a university. Other students at Tunghai (or any university) do not get this rare opportunity to make such an informed decision. To help you achieve these two purposes, directors and professors from at least 15 different academic departments have generously agreed to come to our class to introduce their departments to you. To help you get the most from these guest speakers’ visits, you will be writing reflections on each visit. In addition, depending on your area of academic interest and on scheduling, you may be given the opportunity to attend some lectures as a visitor to a course in a department of your choice to taste the classroom experience in that field.

課程概述

Tunghai Academic Exploration is a first year course for all students enrolled in IDP. It is an English immersion course. The theme of the course is Academic Exploration. This 3 credit course for students in the IDP Program will feature speakers from different departments at Tunghai University. Each week a speaker would introduce their department and talk about possible careers after graduation. They will also talk about what they look for in students and to apply to their department.
